Our current sign simply promotes this Saturday’s upcoming Christmas Tea and Sale here at Eastern Passage Baptist Church.
Why do that? Why advertise a Christmas Tea and Sale? Why have one?
These kinds of events have often been thought of as a fundraising idea. Churches like ours seek to do good work in the community, helping to train good Christian people who model their lives on Jesus’s example, and as a result become good citizens who make a positive contribution in every area of their lives. Some of the work we do together costs money (teaching children and youth, running a vacation Bible camp, supporting sustainable development in Africa…), so maybe it’s okay to raise funds for our work on such worthy causes.
However, a much more exciting reason to have a Christmas Tea and Sale is that it can be an excellent community event. Here at Eastern Passage Baptist Church, we’re enthusiastic about opportunities to meet and get to know members of our community. This Tea and Sale, looks forward to our celebration of the true meaning of Christmas, and is exactly the kind of event that gives you, our neighbours, the opportunity to meet us and each other. We hope many of you will be available to come and experience this event together, and that it will be just one of the many things that make Eastern Passage a unique and interesting community to be a part of. The reasonable prices ($5 adults, $2 children 12 and under) should allow even those on a modest budget to enjoy a nice lunch and have some great conversations, all while contributing to good causes and good work in our community and beyond it.
I hope this is helpful. This Christmas Tea and Sale is for you! That’s why it’s on the sign.
Hope to see you there!
P.S. 11-1 p.m. Saturday November 17, at Eastern Passage Baptist Church, 385 Cow Bay Road (at Caldwell Road), Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia.
